How to avoid a potential police chase in Australia

Police in Melbourne have been called in to help solve a manhunt after a man was seen running down the main street of the city in a stolen car.

Key points:The chase took place around 5:00am local time (7:00pm AEST) in the CBD of MelbourneThe man is described as “very muscular” and had “long black hair”Police have asked anyone who witnessed the chase to come forward.

The man was spotted by a passer-by who called police.

Police officers with a search dog were called in and found the vehicle on a nearby street.

Police said the man was carrying a gun and a backpack.

“We are trying to piece together what he is up to,” Sergeant Ian Smith said.

“He may be looking for a way out of the CBD or to an area in the inner-city to hide out.”

The man has been described as being “very, very muscular”.

The car is described by police as a blue or silver Ford Focus with two doors open and two black-and-white lights flashing.

Police also said they were aware of reports of the man’s identity and were asking anyone with information to come to a police station.

“There are multiple reports of a man with a firearm, a backpack, carrying a weapon, or even people who have seen him with a gun,” Sergeant Smith said, adding that police had also contacted the man in the city.

“I don’t know what the nature of that is yet but we will continue to work with the police to see if we can get some leads.”
